Heirloom variety
Known as the baker's favorite apple, this variety boasts a long shelf life, lasting up to 6 months in a cooler. It is resistant to cedar apple rust and is a heavy producer of medium-sized fruit. The trees typically grow 18 to 20 feet tall and wide, thriving best in zones 5-8. The fruit ripens in October and November and tends to stay on the tree well into the fall. It prefers loamy soil and at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Expect fruit production within 2 to 5 years.

This old-time heritage variety has been a Southern favorite for years. It matures late, developing a very dark, almost black skin when ripe. The fruit has a distinctive tart flavor and is versatile for various uses.
